Participatory action research with Inuit societies: A scoping review

Abstract Participatory methods have become essential for research with Indigenous Arctic peoples. To understand how researchers use such methods, we conducted a scoping review of participatory action (PAR)—a classic qualitative methodology—with Inuit communities. Although other systematic reviews exist on methodologies in the Arctic, our is only one focusing Inuit. We reviewed 11 empirical studies published between 2000 and 2019 peer-reviewed journals. Most them had been Canadian authors came from variety disciplines, were mostly about health well-being The did not same definition PAR, but their definitions share some key components: participation, engagement goal social change. There also forms although photovoice method was frequent. Scoping are most often used natural sciences. This challenge because using it sciences concerned an approach different uses. A remaining question to assess method, either by peers or stakeholders.
